Why?
Jun 25 2012 Posted in GoKart NewsWe’re just wondering whether tucked in shirts make players more aerodynamic and therefore faster? In which case, yes, yes, yes we agree.

You know how to keep us quiet.

The Vousden column

Some people would kill for a Nobel Peace Prize
Who’d a thunk it?
There are, just occasionally, moments in both sport and life when the world is tipped off its axis and history is made in a most improbable way. This morning is one of those moments because it represents the only time when the four pre-eminent team competitions in golf – the Ryder, Solheim, Walker and Curtis cups – have all resided on this side of the Atlantic. Team GB&I’s improbable win over USA at Nairn in the Curtis Cup is their first since 1996, and only their seventh in the 85-years over which the competition has been held. To describe our side as being underdogs is the biggest understatement since Tiger Woods first said that he rather liked blonde cocktail waitresses. Even more improbably, they seized victory after losing the opening series of foursome matches in a whitewash. They even won the singles 5-8 and as we know, in team competitions the Americans always win the singles.
In the wake of this magnificent result we can now confidently expect England to win the European Football Championship, and to do it with (more…)

Congratulations to Phil Harvey for rather an impressive showing at the Isle of Man TT this week.

Jun 08 2012 Posted in GoKart News, Golf NewsCharnwood Forest Golf Club captain Steve Ackling did his bit to prevent slow play after tackling 150 holes in less than 14 hours with a little help from GoKart.
Ackling completed his mammoth stint on the course in 13 hours 50 minutes, averaging 93 minutes per 18-hole round, with a GoKart Automatic helping him keep up the impressive pace.
The colossal feat was inspired by former club member Harry Flude who undertook the same challenge 99 years ago, and, after hitting his first shot at 5am, 150 holes and around 30 miles later, Ackling holed a par putt at 6.50pm having raised more than £2,000 for the Rainbows Hospice charity.
An average gross score of 82 across the 150 holes saw Ackling play impressively close to his handicap of 12, with his best score coming on his fifth round with a five-over-par 74 including an eagle on the final hole.
In addition to the eagle, he also registered three birdies and 57 pars and during the day lost only one ball
To donate money to Rainbows Hospice in support of Ackling’s endeavours visit www.justgiving.com/steve-ackling. All donations of blister plasters would probably be very well received too.
Well done Steve. Big cheer from here at GoKart!

The Vousden Column

Remember to pillage and rape before you burn
The rich get richer
The torturous pre-shot routine of Kevin Na at the Players’ Championship has brought the pace of play taken by Tour pros into the news again – but don’t expect anything to change, especially in America. The last twoball of the final round – Na and Zach Johnson – took four-and-a-quarter hours to complete their round. That’s close to a quarter of an hour per hole. Na was put on the clock in the third round and will receive a financial penalty for slow play, but we’ll never know what it was because the Tour doesn’t publicise such things. In fact it’s likely to be between $5,000 and $20,000 but considering that Na slipped down the leaderboard quicker than a McDonald’s hamburger disappears down John Daly’s neck, and still made nearly $300,000 for tied 7th, I doubt he’ll be too distressed. When it was pointed out to Tour commissioner Tim Finchem that what happens in the pro game always filters through to amateurs he said: ‘Anything we can do from a communications standpoint to encourage people playing faster, we will do. But clubs have got to take the initiative to drive play.’ I translate this to mean: ‘It’s nothing to do with us if amateurs take too long.’ As a piece of bureaucratic buck passing it stands alongside Pontius Pilate washing his (more…)
